Welcome Home Babara
Bill Stone

McCall teacher and astronaut Barbara Morgan was welcomed home to McCall this week in a celebration highlighted by a public rally at the McCall Donnelly High School gym. The rally was just one of a series of events Morgan will attend during her week-long visit to Idaho, her first visit since she completed her 13-day mission for Nasa in August. Doors opened at 6:15pm Tuesday with M-D high school cheerleaders serving as ushers and hostesses. Welcoming remarks were made by KTVB anchorman Mark Johnson after which Morgan arrived via police car at the school where she made a grand entry. Mayor Bill Robertson presented the key to the city to Morgan after which winners of an essay contest held at McCall Elementary School read their essays. We welcome home our native daughter who has done so much for our community and the world. Welcome back to Earth, Barbara!

"Invisible Children" December 10
Bill Stone

The McCall-Donnelly High School Humanitarian Club will sponsor a showing of the award-winning documentary "Invisible Children" at 7pm on Monday Dec. 10 at the Alpine Playhouse. The movie documents the experience of three college youths in San Diego who traveled to Northern Uganda and witnessed the effects of civil war and the forced conscription of child soldiers. This movie has inspired a young people's movement across the country to help rebuild the lives of child soldiers and the schools of Uganda. The International Humanitarian Law Class and the movie inspired the creation of a student club devoted to humanitarian issues and informing the community of needed humanitarian actions in the world. Donations will be accepted.
